Applying Technology & S.T.E.M. to Real Life

About KCA Robotech

KCA’s Robotics program was founded in August of 2009 as an after-school extracurricular activity. The goal of the program is to provide KCA students in grades 4-8 an opportunity to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities through fun, hands-on experiences, events and field trips.
Mission
Provide students with the exposure and experience to STEM related professions and activities primarily through the use of robotics and technology.

Competitions

KCA’s Robotech team participates in the FIRST® LEGO® League.
Occasionally, the team participates in Southern Methodist University’s “Visioneering” event. In addition to external organized events, the program builds and hosts its own mini “SumoBot” tournament between its members each spring.

Application Process

Applications are open to all KCA students grades 4-8, but space is limited.

All team members must re-apply each year. Applicants are selected based on a review and evaluation of submitted applications rather than a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants are evaluated on STEM aptitude, teacher recommendation, internal coach evaluation, grades, and discipline.

First Time Applicants

All first-time applicants have a teacher complete and submit the teacher recommendation form and a letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope.

All reapplying applicants will be evaluated based on the applicant evaluation form completed by the Robotics coach or assistant coach.
